Director of Community Relations
The United Nations Association in Canada – Calgary Chapter (UNAC-Calgary) is seeking a new Director of Community Relations to take responsibility for relationship management and follow-up with key partners and funders. This position will work in close collaboration with the President to ensure timely follow-up is completed with all connections, and lead in refreshing the UNAC-Calgary Community Investment Grants Initiative. The Director of Community Relations will also represent UNAC-Calgary at external events (Mainly speaking) The position requires a minimum 2 year commitment (max 6 years) and is an unpaid volunteer position.
At UNAC-Calgary, we believe in connecting Calgarians to the work of the United Nations, with a focus on the Sustainable Development Goals and how they are realized locally. We do this by promoting the work of the United Nations, funding local community initiatives, hosting and supporting special events. https://unaccal.com and support and promote the values and goals of the UN in Canada.
Key areas of responsibility include:
- Oversight and management of key relationships as identified by the President
- Ensure timely follow-up is completed for all fund recipients in accordance to UNAC-Calgary policies and procedures
- Work with greater board to redesign procedures, policies, documents, and community outreach for the UNAC-Calgary Community Investment Grants Initiative
- Liaise with Treasurer on AGLC correspondences and related financial matters
- Identify opportunities for deeper engagement of key stakeholders
- Organize and present Community Investment Grants applications, and with fellow board members, select community investments that align with the SDGs
- Regularly attend and actively participate in monthly board and/or committee meetings
- Act as an external advocate and ambassador for UNAC-Calgary and the SDGs
- Regularly attend monthly board and/or committee meetings
- Volunteer for key activities, events and committees as required
- Commit to a minimum 2 year term (max 6 years) on the board of directors
Desired qualifications:
- Knowledge of Alberta Gaming & Liquor Commission (AGLC) funding regulations and use of gaming proceeds. for community organizations required
- Public speaking experience an asset
- External stakeholder relationship management experience
- Experience working with volunteers
- Experience working with diverse stakeholder groups including corporate, government, non-profit and community representatives
- Knowledge of the United Nations, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals
Time Commitment: 10-15 hours a month
